Moodle-Update

Liebe Lehrende und Studierende der TU Dortmund, 

wir möchten Sie hiermit über ein bevorstehendes Moodle-Update am Montag, 20. Februar 2023 (Rosenmontag) informieren.

Während des Updates wird Moodle (moodle.tu-dortmund.de) von 7 bis ca. 18 Uhr nicht zur Verfügung stehen. Das Update betrifft Moodle als Lernmanagementsystem; das Prüfungs-Moodle ist davon nicht betroffen (s.u.).

# Warum ist das Update notwendig?
Mit dem Update auf die Hauptversion 4 wird das Moodle der TU Dortmund zukunftsfit gemacht, der technische Support für die derzeitige Version läuft in diesem Jahr aus. Darüber hinaus wird mit dem Update auch die Nutzungsoberfläche moderner, aufgeräumter und insgesamt konsistenter zu bedienen sein. Auch in Hinsicht auf die Barrierefreiheit bewirkt das Update einen großen Schritt nach vorne.

Was passiert mit den Kursen und Inhalten?
Alle Kurse und Inhalte werden auch im aktualisierten System enthalten sein. Die Aktivitäten erscheinen automatisch im neuen Design. Wir empfehlen dennoch, nach dem Update das Layout Ihrer Kurse zu prüfen.

Was muss ich beachten?
Lehrende: Bitte informieren Sie Ihre Studierenden noch während der laufenden Lehrveranstaltungen, dass Moodle am 20. Februar nicht zur Verfügung stehen wird. 
Studierende: Bitte planen Sie die Ausfallzeit am 20. Februar während Ihrer Prüfungsvorbereitung ein. 

Was ist mit Prüfungen in Moodle?
Prüfungen mit Moodle sollen ab der kommenden Prüfungsphase nur noch in der speziell für Prüfungen angebotenen Moodle-Instanz durchgeführt werden. Informationen dazu finden Sie im Webportal zur Digitalen Lehre. Das Prüfungs-Moodle wird während der Vorlesungszeit des Sommersemesters aktualisiert und steht daher während des kommenden Prüfungszeitraums komplett zur Verfügung, also auch am 20. Februar.

Wo finde ich weitere Informationen?
Das E-Learning-Service-Team des ITMC bereitet Informationsmaterial mit den wichtigsten Änderungen und ein FAQ vor. Sobald diese Angebote zur Verfügung stehen, werden Sie nochmals informiert.

Eine Online-Veranstaltung am 15. Februar zwischen 13 und 14 Uhr ermöglicht, einen ersten Einblick vor dem Update zu erhalten. Eine weitere Online-Veranstaltung am 23. Februar zwischen 13 und 14 Uhr, also kurz nach dem Update, bietet Raum für konkrete Nachfragen nach Ihren ersten Erfahrungen mit dem neuen Moodle.

Dear teachers and students at TU Dortmund University:

we want to inform you of an upcoming Moodle update on Monday, 20 February 2023 (Carnival Monday).

During the update, Moodle (moodle.tu-dortmund.de) will be unavailable from 7 a.m. until approximately 6 p.m. The update affects Moodle as a learning management system; the exam Moodle is not affected (see below).

Why is the update necessary?
With the update to the main version 4, the Moodle of TU Dortmund University will be made ready for the future. The technical support for the current version will expire this year. In addition, the update will also make the user interface more modern, cleaner and overall more consistent to use. The update also represents a major step forward in terms of accessibility.

What happens to the courses and contents?
All courses and contents will be included in the updated system as well. Activities will automatically appear in the new design. Nevertheless, we recommend checking the layout of your courses after the update.

What do I need to pay attention to?
Teachers: Please inform your students while classes are still in session that Moodle will not be available on 20 February. 
Students: Please take the downtime on 20 February into consideration foryour exam preparation.

What about exams in Moodle?
As of the upcoming examination phase, examinations using Moodle are to be conducted only in the Moodle instance offered specifically for examinations. Information on this is available on the Digital Teaching website (in German). The exam Moodle will be updated during the lecture period of the summer semester and will therefore be completely available during the upcoming examination period, i.e. also on 20 February.

Where can I find more information?
The E-Learning Service Team of the ITMC is preparing information material with the most important changes and a FAQ. As soon as these offers are available, you will be informed again.

You can get a first impression of the new Moodle before the update in an online meeting on 15 February, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. There will be another online meeting on 23 February from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. – shortly after the update – for specific questions about the new Moodle.
